Prepare for Repair

A successful restoration starts before your gear ever hits our workbench. Use this guide to prepare your component for its journey to Sound Heritage and help our team provide the most accurate expert diagnostic possible.

Identify the Gear

Locate the model name and serial number on the rear of the unit. Clear photos of the back panel are incredibly helpful for our team when sourcing original parts.

Note the Symptoms

Does it hum, crackle, or have a channel drop-out? Documenting when and how the issue occurs helps us replicate the fault and ensures a thorough hi-fi repair.

Pack for Safety

Remove any vintage accessories, manuals, or loose cables unless they are part of the problem. If shipping or transporting, ensure the unit is braced—these heritage components are heavy and delicate.

Do I need an appointment for a drop-off?

No appointment is necessary! You are welcome to visit our Nanaimo storefront at 33 Victoria Crescent anytime during our regular business hours (Tues–Sat, 11am–6pm). Our front-of-house team will be happy to assist with your intake.

Is there a diagnostic fee?

Yes, we charge a standard bench fee for all incoming equipment. This fee covers the technician’s initial time to open the unit and provide a detailed repair estimate. If you proceed with the repair, this fee is applied toward your final total.

Do you buy or trade vintage audio gear?

We are always looking for quality vintage stereo equipment to add to our collection or restore for others. If you have a piece you’re looking to rehome, bring it in for an appraisal by our management team.

if i could give more than 5 stars i would !! i came from vancouver planning to get just a record player, but left with said record player, receiver, and a couple of records. nathan was incredibly helpful and so kind - he clearly knows and loves his stuff, and the community he’s built there was evident in the half-hour or so i spent there. i would gladly make the trip across to come and visit again!

Nathan spent over an hour with me going over a dozen different combinations for my first Hi-Fi system. He showed me what to look for used in everything from amps, tuners, and receivers, to speaker builds and I left with a whole system and I couldn't be happier! Prices were competitive with facebook but with better service and guaranteed performance.

If you are looking to get into vynal or your looking to upgrade your system, this is the place to go. There are not many stores that offer a selection of vintage gear, but this is the best there is. Nathan will help you find what you are looking for. He will even let you test anything in the store. Also a great selection of vynal, tape and cd's if you're looking to add to your collection.
